Jim Cramer is an American television personality and an infotainer. Infotainment a combination of two words information and entertainment and is short for "information-based media content or programming that also includes entertainment content in an effort to enhance popularity with audiences and consumers." Jim is also a former hedge fund manager, a best-selling author, the host of CNBC's Mad Money and a co-founder of TheStreet.com. He was born in February 10, 1955 to Polish-American parents in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He graduated magna *** laude with a B.A. in government from Harvard College in 1977. He began his journalism career in college, writing for the school newspaper, The Harvard Crimson. After college, he worked for the Tallahassee Democrat where he covered the Ted Bundy murders and got praised by his the then-executive editor, Richard Oppel, for being like a driving ram and was great at getting the story. Later, he became a journalist for The Los Angeles Herald Examiner. He studied again in Harvard to become a prosecutor and while at it, started privately investing in the stock market using his student loan. "Cramer began leaving stock picks on his answering machine, impressing The New Republic owner Martin Peretz, who gave him $500,000 to invest; Cramer earned Peretz $150,000 in two years." Because of his track record in stocks, Jim got a job as a stock broker in Goldman Sachs' Private Wealth Management division. Cramer co-founded TheStreet.com in 1996, and is currently its largest shareholder, a market commentator and adviser. He also manages a charitable trust stock portfolio which is tied to TheStreet.
